Origin Bank is Early Adopter of the .bank URL

RUSTON, LA – Origin Bank announced it has transitioned its company website, www.originbankonline.com to the new URL, www.origin.bank. More than 45 percent of banks nationwide have secured .BANK domains, but Origin is one of the first to actually make the transition.

With the substantial growth of the Internet since its inception, and the availability of .COM domains decreasing significantly, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), which oversees the stability and unification of the Internet, began allowing the creation of other domains such as .ORG, .EDU, and others in 2008. In 2014 .BANK was approved specifically for financial institutions. Compared to the .COM domain, .BANK is a more protected, trusted and secure space for financial institutions and their customers due to the higher security standards required to obtain the domain. Only verified banks, banking trade associations, bank regulators, core processors and other select financial institutions are eligible for .BANK domains.

“Origin is proud to provide our customers a safer, more secure way to bank online, “said Lance Hall, Origin’s chief operating officer. “One of our core values is to be innovative, flexible and forward thinking, and being one of the first to use .BANK exemplifies Origin’s commitment to technological advancement in providing our customers the safety and security they want and deserve.”

Nothing was required of customers for the domain transition; the www.originbankonline.com website was automatically redirected to the new .BANK URL.
